The Flaming Lotus Girls // Xylophage

The  Flaming Lotus Girls are a female-driven, volunteer-based artist cooperative who have been making kinetic, mechanical fire art since 2000. They create interactive large-scale fire installations that engage viewers and invite them to become part of the art.
This year their team of over 100 volunteers used over 8000lbs of steel to create Xylophage, a massive fungi containing sound, light and fire have sprouted amid the aftermath of the destruction of an enormous tree. It is a shadowy ghost of the tree spreads out on the ground in front of the tree suggesting its former majesty. Giant mushrooms offer fantastic interactions with fire, others create strange soundscapes. The hollow stump of the tree contains fiery wonders to gather around and enjoy.
